Awkwafina and Danny Devito Join ‘Jumanji’ Sequel

After the box office success of 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, which raked in $962.1 million, it would seem only logical that Sony would go on to create a sequel. And as did the first, the second would have to again bring in a star studded cast to help draw audiences to theaters. The most recent actors that have been confirmed to join the next film are American actor and filmmaker Danny Devito and American rapper and actress Awkwafina.

Awkwafina is the stage name of Nora Lum who has released two studio albums and starred in both Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8. She has appeared in a few other films and a number of television shows in smaller roles, as well as her hosting of an episode of Saturday Night Live, but this will be another big role notched into her repertoire.

Danny Devito has become an extremely popular actor over the last 40 or so years with roles in films such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Batman Returns, and L.A. Confidential, directorial credits with Matilda and Death To Smoochy, and a recurring role on FX’s It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as Frank Reynolds. Even at 74 years old, Devito has remained quite busy with roles in Tim Burton’s Dumbo and now a role in Sony’s next Jumanji installment.

The plot of the sequel is under wraps as well are the character descriptions of both actors. Vito and Lum will star alongside the stars of the first film in another story of this re-imagining of the Jumanji story. The film has an expected release date of December 13th of this year.

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
