Darren Aronofsky’s psychological horror film, Black Swan, will be making its way back to the big screen this summer for its fifteenth anniversary. From August 21st to August 24th the award-winning film will be in theaters, and for the very first time it can be seen in IMAX.
The film was nominated for five categories at the 83rd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. The film took home one Oscar, with Natalie Portman winning Best Actress for her role as Nina Sayers. The film was not only successful in awards season but at the box office as well, earning over $329 million globally on a $13 million budget.
Both Aronofsky and Portman are well accomplished in the fifteen years since Black Swan has been released, and both have found their way back to the Academy Awards. Aronofsky’s film The Whale was nominated for three Oscars, winning two, and his new film Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz comes out this year. Portman was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, and has made multiple appearances in the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster.
It will be interesting to see how well the film does in theaters after all it achieved fifteen years ago, and it will be even more intriguing to see it take on the IMAX screen.
