It has been announced that Kevin Feige tapped Michael Waldron to pen Avengers: Secret Wars. Waldron seemed to be an obvious choice after his success with Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness and Loki, coming off of a career writing for Community, and very much could be a mainstay for the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. However it should be noted that marvel has not made a comment about the hiring.
Insiders say meetings with Marvel studio executives for the job took place last month, and while a number of writers met, many believed Waldron was the front-runner given how much trust the studio has in the writer.
Deadline, who broke the story was quoted saying:
“This comes off the heels of Jeff Loveness, who was brought on as the writer of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, following the news Destin Daniel Cretton of “Shang Chi” and “Just Mercy” would be directing the film. “Secret Wars” will be produced by Kevin Feige. Deadline reported “Waldron has been on a roll with the studio during the past year, starting with last year’s hit Loki series for Disney+. Waldron served as exec producer and showrunner on the series, which was so popular it became one of few Marvel series to receive a second-season renewal. Production on Season 2 is underway.”
According to a recent leak, the film may be directed by Ryan Coogler, who famously directed Black Panther. However no director has been confirmed yet
Waldron previous success was one of Marvel’s bigger movies in post-pandemic era: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film premiered in May and has grossed $955.8 million at worldwide box office, and received critical acclaim. Waldron is also currently developing and writing Feige’s secret Star Wars film for LucasFilm. The plot for the film has not been revealed at current, but it has been rumored to be a massive crossover event in the same vein as Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
