Avengers: Infinity War is kicking names and taking ass at the worldwide box office. Largely thanks to your roommate, Todd, who has seen it twelve times in IMAX since its release on April 27th, Marvel’s superhero sensation has earned a staggering $1.6 billion dollars worldwide, making the improbable seem as easy as a snap of the fingers. The movie opened huge in China this weekend, adding another $200 million to its international haul, which now stands at $1 billion.
If you’re keeping track of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the money they earn on a detailed spreadsheet (who isn’t?), you’ll notice that Avengers: Infinity War is already the highest grossing MCU film of all time. The first Avengers movie ended its run at $1.5 billion, Avengers: Age of Ultron made $1.4 billion, and Black Panther has earned $1.34 billion.
Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War has made $548 million. With Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story right around the corner, the Avengers may need the power of the time stone in order to catch up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ record-setting $936 million domestic haul. Black Panther‘s $696 million (and climbing) total, however, is within the reach of Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet.
Per Deadline, Infinity War‘s success makes it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. It will easily surpass Jurassic World‘s $1.67 billion, and then steamroll towards Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $2.06 billion, before setting its sights on Titanic ($2.18 billion), and finally Avatar ($2.78 billion).
How much do you think Infinity War will make by the end of its run? Maybe enough money so that Robert Downey Jr. can finally move out of his parent’s house? Let us know in the comments below!
