Before Avatar: Fire And Ash can hit theaters, some fans are looking to refresh their memory of the previous film. Avatar: The Way Of Water has returned to theater screens for a limited time. Avatar: The Way Of Water picked up 15 years after the events of 2009’s Avatar. After the Sky People return to wreak havoc on Pandora once more, an old adversary resurfaces and forces Jake Sully and his family to relocate and completely change their way of life if they want to stick together.
Across its weekend back in theaters, Collider noted that The Way Of Water managed to find its way into the domestic top ten at the box office. It grossed an overall total of $3 million this weekend, with Collider also noting that the large formats the Avatar franchise is accustomed to added handsomely to its gross.
Since James Cameron released Avatar to audiences back in 2009, the series has been nothing short of box office juggernauts. The first film took the top spot as the all-time highest grossing film, with a worldwide total just shy of $3 billion. The second film, premiering 13 years later, hit very close to the success the first film had, grossing $2.3 billion (per BoxOfficeMojo) and settling in at the third spot for all-time highest grosses.
Avatar: Fire And Ash hits theaters December 19th.
