‘Avatar: Fire And Ash’ Snags $88 Million On Friendly Shores And A Whopping $247 Million More Overseas For Opening Weekend

The box office burned bright, led by James Cameron’s latest silver screen ventureAvatar: Fire and Ash. The live-action CG animated epic may have taken first with $88 million at the domestic box office, but it scored franchise second-place finish with $345 million for its international opening haul. Falling right into projections on the mark, Fire and Ash came in just slightly lower than its predecessors with $134 million in 2022. While a healthy start, Fire and Ash still has a long way to go for it to reach the highs of the rest of the trilogy.

Second place this week went to David from Angel Studios, an animated retelling of the biblical story of David. David took down the competition with $22 million, beating the Sydney Sweeney comeback of The Housemaid at $19 million, which landed in third. Rounding out the top four is the fourth newcomer, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which took home $16 million. Fifth this week went to Zootopia 2 in its fourth week, netting $14.5 million.

Sixth was snatched up by Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 with $7.25 million in its third week. Seventh went to Wicked: For Good with $4.3 million in its fifth week, and eighth to Dhurandhar with $2.5 million.

The fifth new film contending to make its mark is Marty Supreme from A24, starring Timothée Chalamet. Despite only being in its limited release only in Los Angeles and New York before its wide Christmas Day premiere, Marty Supreme sold out 92 shows, making it the highest per-screen-average of 2025 and netting $875 thousand and a ninth-place finish for its preview week. Hamnet took tenth with $850 thousand in its fourth week.
