A return trip to Pandora may have moved one step closer for fans of the highest grossing film of all time. The Wrap reports that James Cameron and Fox have tapped Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) to write the screenplay for Avatar 2. No official word has come through from parties at Fox, nor from Cameron or Friedman directly.
If Friedman is indeed select to pen the screenplay, he’ll come with experience working within a Cameron universe. He created and wrote for Terminator: The Sarah Connors Chronicles, the cult hit TV show that expanded upon the original Terminator films. His previous credits include the screenplay for Brian De Palma’s 2006 old Hollywood crime drama The Black Dahlia as well as a story credit for the 1996 science fiction film Chain Reaction, which starred Keanu Reeves. Cameron had previously announced the intention for Avatar to be made into a trilogy, even though he is notorious for taking his time in between his massive films– it took twelve years to get the first Avatar to the screen after his previous all-time box office record holder, Titanic.
However the case unfolds on the screenplay credit, Avatar 2 is still slated to hit screens in 2015, and is returning cast members Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
