According to Deadline, Austin Stowell (Whiplash) has joined the cast of writer-director Nacho Vigalondo’s (Timecrimes) new indie monster sci-fi flick, Colossal.
The Brightlight Pictures film will star Anne Hathaway (The Intern) as Gloria, a woman mysteriously mind-connected to a giant lizard-like monster in Tokyo. It turns out she is the only person in the world who can stop the creature’s attacks and ensuing destruction. Stowell will play Hathaway’s love interest. Also recently announced in the cast is Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?).
Stowell can be seen in Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg’s just-released Bridge Of Spies, where he plays downed U2 spy pilot, Francis Gray Powers. He will next be seen in Simon West’s (The Expendables 2) action-thriller, Stratton, opposite Dominic Cooper, followed by two vehicles from director and Oscar-nominated actor (127 Hours) James Franco: In Dubious Battle, a drama about California farm workers set in the 1930’s, and The Long Home, with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games franchise), about a man hired by his father’s killer in 1940’s Tennessee.
The project goes into production next week. Voltage Pictures, which is handling international rights, is currently embroiled in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Godzilla rights holder Toho over the Colossal project.
