One of Stephen King’s many stories, The Running Man, is getting a brand new adaptation later this year. As it has already been adapted before, the leading talent of the original version has given his own comments regarding the new spin.
The Running Man, originally penned under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, follows a man stuck in a dystopian world. With his daughter being sick and no money to help her, he decides to take part in a dangerous game show with an enormous sum of prize money, but he must survive if the money can be any good to him.
Glen Powell is the titular running man of the new adaptation, helmed by Edgar Wright. Powell, known for Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, is joined by Josh Brolin, Jayme Lawson, Lee Pace, and Michael Cera.
The original take of The Running Man saw none other than 80’s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the leading role. While still months out from its release, Schwarzenegger made it known that he fully approved of Powell playing a role that he once did, according to People magazine.
As Deadline reports, Powell stated that through Arnold’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, the two of them were able to discuss the upcoming film, and Powell filling the shoes of Schwarzenegger.
“Arnold gave us his full blessing and we get to give Arnold a very specific fun gift from the movie in a couple of weeks here,” Powell said.
The Running Man hits theaters November 7th.
