The Army’s new recruiting advertisement has gone awry since the arrest of actor Johnathon Majors, who was arrested last Saturday in New York on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment.
Majors also served as the narrator for two ads that hoped to encourage new recruits for the United States Armed Forces. Recently seen in Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the Army was hopeful Majors would appeal to a younger audience.
The Army’s recruitment numbers fell 25% short of their goal of 60,000 recruits, making it the Army’s worst recruiting year in recent history.
In a statement published this Sunday, the Army said they were aware of Majors’ arrest and were “deeply concerned by the allegations.” While Majors “is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.”
According to a police statement, Majors was involved in a domestic dispute where the victim informed the police she had been assaulted. While Majors himself called the police about his girlfriend’s behavior, his girlfriend told police that Majors physically attacked her in a cab. After showing marks on her body, Majors was placed under arrest.
Major’s lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement there was evidence clearing Majors and that the actor “is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.”
