Via Deadline, Ariana DeBose, best known for her recent part in The Prom, has been cast in space thriller entitled I.S.S. Written by Nick Shafir, the project comes from the Black List, and was regarded as one of 2020’s best un-produced screenplays. Well this is clearly changing as Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite is set to direct with casting well-underway.
In addition to DeBose, the cast includes Pilou Asbæk(Game of Thrones, Overlord), Chris Messina(Birds of Prey), John Gallagher Jr. (Come Play), Costa Ronin(Once Upon Time… In Hollywood), and Maria Mashkova (Masha from Russia).
The film revolves around American and Russian astronauts working together on the International Space Station. However, after world shaking events occur on Earth, the astronauts have contrasting missions given to them by their superiors. DeBose is set to play the newest member of the team.
This is a new step in DeBose’s career that has been largely tied to musical theater. Her Broadway career has gone well and now she will make the leap from musical films to a space thriller. Aside from this, DeBose will be in the remake of West Side Story as Anita and will be in a Cecily Strong series for Apple TV.
I.S.S has no current production or release date.
