Per Deadline, A24 is set to produce Ari Aster‘s third film. This will be the third collaboration from the studio and filmmaker. Entitled Disappointment Blvd, the film is set to star Joaquin Phoenix, and is described as “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” With Aster onboard as writer and director, expect the family dynamics, wonderful cinematography, and horrific tales of Hereditary and Midsommar.
Aster has quickly become one of the most exciting young directors in recent memory. The writer-director has made two horror features that have garnered critical, audience, and financial success. While both were horror-dramas, and most of his work is, a brief look into Aster’s short film work before his breakout 2018 film Hereditary, would show his love for dark comedy.
His thesis project, The Strange Thing About The Johnsons, was originally pitched as a satirical take on memoirs, but to get it produced he had to take it in a more melodramatic avenue. With Aster having provided two huge hits in back-to-back years for A24, it would not be surprising if the rising-auteur would want to make something different for his third feature.
Phoenix can literally do anything when it comes to acting whether it’s Signs or something more serious like The Master. This is certainly an exciting union for a duo that will put people in movie theater seats.
As of now there is no set production date, but the anticipation for many is slowly building. Ari Aster’s other films Hereditary and Midsommar are currently streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime, respectively, while his short films, including The Strange Thing About The Johnsons and Basically can be found on YouTube.
