‘Aquaman’ To Cross Billion Dollar Mark Despite Losing the First Place Box Office Throne

After a few weeks of major box office successes for the DC hero, Aquaman has finally fallen off the number one spot of the box office, according to Deadline. On Friday January 11, the recent box office results showed that the Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston remake of the French film The Intouchables, The Upside was the number one film for that Friday night. The film is projected make a $19 Million Dollar debut this weekend after a making a good $6 million on Friday.

Even though Aquaman has finally been de-throned as number one movie for the time being, the ship has not sunk for Aquaman just yet. In fact, it is still sailing strongly as Aquaman will cross the $1 billion mark worldwide at the box office. On Friday, the James Waan Superhero flick grossed $4.5 million, projecting it to add $15.3 million to it’s domestic gross that will be around $285 million by the end of the weekend. Aquaman will not only the highest grossing film of the DCEU thus far, but will also the 5th highest grossing film from Warner Brothers Pictures. The film is right behind such hits as The Dark Knight, The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey, The Dark Knight Rises and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. With such a big hit on their hands, Warner Brothers will definitely be sure to make more films with Jason Momoa’s now iconic version of the character.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
