Greyhound stars Hanks as Capt. Ernest Krause, who is leading his first command on a U.S. destroyer. The group of 37 allied shipped must cross treacherous waters filled with Nazi U-boats. Nazis are pursuing the group as they make their journey.
In addition to starring in the film, Hanks also co-wrote the film alongside Aaron Schneider, who served as director.
AppleTV+ purchased Greyhound from Sony Pictures amidst the coronavirus. The film was initially supposed to premiere in theaters on May 8, but this was not possible due to social distancing precautions. AppleTV+ is not the only streaming service buying films; tons of streaming services are purchasing films that were not able to premiere in theaters during quarantine and are instead are releasing them digitally on their platforms.
Greyhound is one of the first films that AppleTV+ is releasing. The streaming service primarily focused on series during its early stages. Now that it has a stable platform, more movies are sure to come out of Apple.
