A film adaptation of the iconic game The Oregon Trail is confirmed to be in development, directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon.
Apple Studios will produce the film. Earlier this year, Apple Studios released Wolfs on Apple TV+ and brought Fly Me to the Moon to theaters in July.
The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, revealed that The Lucas Brothers and Max Reisman wrote the script that will form the basis of the project.
Gordon and Speck have frequently collaborated in the past and are experienced with adaptations. In 2022, they brought the children’s book Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile to the big screen and co-created Hit-Monkey, a TV show based on the Marvel character.
The Oregon Trail game allows players to guide a group of pioneers across the country. ScreenRant noted that the classic game is beloved for both its gameplay and the range of unique scenarios players encounter.
ScreenRant also commented that Gordon and Speck’s style would complement the film, given the game’s quirky humor.
