Marvel fans should expect to see more Anthony Mackie, as the actor confirmed in an interview with Men’s Health that he plans to stick around for a while as Marvel Cinematic Universe enters “Phase 4.”
After portraying Captain America’s best friend Falcon since Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Endgame hinted that he may take over the shield next. His interview according to Comicbook.com states that Mackie “initially signed on for ten Marvel films.” However the actor added that the rumored The Falcon & Winter Soldier miniseries on Disney+ could complicate the number of appearances in MCU.
Prior to “Phase 4,” Mackie made appearances in five of the MCU franchise films which include Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. This puts Mackie at the midway point of his tenure with MCU. Mackie did not state whether or not his ten picture deal was done years prior or just recently.
When asked about portraying Captain America in later films, Mackie expressed his hesitance and confidence about the character. Aside from crediting Chris Evans for his portrayal of Steve Rogers deeming him as “an amazing Cap,” Mackie admitted that taking over for Evans would be a “huge challenge” and felt “a lot of people are going to expect me to Chris Evans in the same suit.” Mackie confirmed that the latter was “definitely not gonna happen” and he would rather see the character endure a different look.
Avengers: Endgame is currently in theaters now. The last Marvel film on the docket this year for Walt Disney Pictures is Spider-Man: Far From Home which will be released July 2nd.
