Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) will be taking on double acting duty for his next film, joining the ranks of Lindsay Lohan (The Parent Trap), Armie Hammer (The Social Network), and Tom Hardy (Legend), to name few. According to Deadline, Elgort is set to star as twin brothers in Jonathan, a new indie drama to be directed by Bill Oliver (Guilt).
Co-written by Oliver and Peter Nickowitz, the film will follow Jonathan and John, twin brothers who have made a pact to stay single. When John, the more sociable of the two, is revealed to have a secret relationship, the straight-laced Jonathan forces him to end it, only to begin an affair with the same woman out of curiosity. This creates a major rift and distrust between the twins, leading to psychological and emotional consequences.
It sounds like Elgort will have his hands full with this one, not only for the fact that he will be playing two characters, but also for the heavy subject matter at hand. Although Elgort has been delegated to the background recently in the Divergent series, he has proven himself capable of this challenge with his breakout in The Fault in Our Stars and the immensely dramatic Jason Reitman indie Men, Women & Children.
Elgort has a lengthy slate of movies on the horizon, including Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, November Criminals with Chloe Grace Moretz, and Billionaire Boys Club in which he stars opposite Taron Egerton (Eddie the Eagle). He has also recently been linked to the Dungeons and Dragons adaptation.
