Goonies truly never say die. In a statement from the organization No Kid Hungry, they announced they are teaming with the cast of The Goonies for a virtual fundraiser on Saturday, December 5, at 8pm EST. The event is free with a strong suggestion of donations. This will be the second virtual reunion in 2020 for the goonie gang.
The returning cast includes Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Joe Pantoliano, and Robert Davi. Josh Gad will also join the cast, having reunited them earlier this year for a fundraiser that has garnered 3 million views since the end of April.
The 1985 classic follows a ragtag group of kids on the hunt for the ultimate child’s dream: buried pirate treasure. Filled with great kids, villains, and adventure the film imbues the childlike wonder of playing with friends in the backyard.
The Goonies is a film close to many and in these times that are so uncertain it is refreshing to see something nostalgic coming back for a good cause. There are many kids struggling across the country without access to school lunches due to closures, hopefully the cast can help No Kid Hungry fundraise to help these individuals across the country.
It is one thing to be a great movie, it is another thing to reunite for a joint cause.
In a separate announcement, the organization announced that Michael Jordan has donated $2 Million to No Kid Hungry.
Icons from the late 20th century still manage to help modern children, which is something to be thankful for around the holidays. Donate on December 5th if you can.
