

Sean Baker’s Anora leads the pack with five nominations in the 2025 Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards. It was announced Monday that the film was nominated for best picture, best screenplay, and best director. Mikey Madison also earned a nod for best female actor, and Yuri Borisov earned a nod for best supporting male actor.
Baker’s comedy is about a young sex worker, Ani, and her romantic entanglement with the son of a Russian oligarch, Ivan, or Vanya to his friends. When Ivan’s family gets word of what their son has been doing in the U.S., they are not happy and look to undo his actions immediately.
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist also earned nominations for best picture and best screenplay. Adrien Brody earned a nomination for best male actor. Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain will also compete in the categories of best picture, best screenplay, and supporting male actor for Kieran Culkin.
A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic directed by James Mangold, received nominations for best male actor for Timothée Chalamet, best supporting male actor for Edward Norton, and best supporting female actor for Monica Barbaro.
Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance earned a best female actor nod for Demi Moore and a best supporting female actor nod for Margaret Qualley.
