Netflix has added stars Anne Hathaway and Salma Hayek Pinault to their upcoming adaptation of Kotaro Isaka’s Seesaw Monster. Isaka’s previous novel Maria Beetle was recently adapted into Bullet Train, a box office success starring Brad Pitt. The pair will play bitter sister-in-laws forced to work together. Netflix hasn’t released any more plot details.
Olivia Milch signed as screenwriter. Milch, who co-wrote Ocean’s 8, previously worked with Netflix when she produced and directed Dude in 2018. No director has been named.
For Hathaway, this is yet another project to add to the Oscar winner’s prolific career. Most recently, she starred in James Grey’s Armageddon Time alongside Jeremy Piven and Jessica Chastain which was released in late October. She also played Rebekah Nuemann in the Hulu miniseries WeCrashed about the dramatic rise and fall of the co-working start-up WeWorks.
Hayek Pinault is following up on a busy 2021 as well. The Beatriz at Dinner actress worked alongside Best Director winner Chloe Zhao in Marvel’s Eternals and with industry titan Ridley Scott in House of Gucci.
Hathaway and Hayek Pinault also signed up as producers through Somewhere Pictures and Ventanrosa Productions respectively. Avika Goldsman and Gregory Lessans of Weed Road Pictures will also produce. Bullet Train producers Yuma Terada and Ryosuke Saegusa of CTB Inc. will also share credits.
