This week, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer debuted the first trailer for one of their upcoming comedy films, The Hustle. Starring as its leads are American actress and Oscar winner Anne Hathaway and English actress Rebel Wilson. It is directed by Chris Addison from a script by Jac Schaeffer.
The Hustle, which sadly has nothing to do with Van McCoy’s 1975 song of the same name, is a female-centered remake of 1988 Frank Oz-directed comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine, and was itself a remake of the 1964 Ralph Levy film Bedtime Story that starred the late but great actors Marlon Brando and David Niven.
The Hustle will follow Hathaway and Wilson as a set of lower and higher class con women who have become versed in scamming rotten men out of their money. While exacting their revenge on the men who did them wrong using their talents, the two make their scamming into a bit of a contest which each other in which the loser must leave town.
Anne Hathaway is on a roll as a con woman after starring in Oceans 8 this past summer and Rebel Wilson is making a name for herself after the hit Pitch Perfect series and her new rom-com Isn’t It Romantic, in theaters now.
The Hustle is poised for release in theaters on May 10th of this year, being distributed by United Artists Releasing. The trailer can be seen below.
