Oscar nominated actress Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) appears to be eyed for an upcoming holiday film in development at Disney. The Pitch Perfect star is being considered to headline as a female Santa Claus for a new film written and directed by Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics).
While currently untitled, the project is currently under the running moniker Nicole and focuses on the daughter of St. Nick who is thrust into the family business. Her father has decided to retire and her brother’s nerves get the better of him, leaving her to take flight on Christmas Eve. Lawrence previously penned the screenplays for both Miss Congeniality films and most recently directed the comedies Did You Hear About the Morgans? and The Rewrite. Suzanne Todd is producing the project.
For Kendrick, this holiday comedy could further display her range following a busy couple of years where the actress has headlined the Pitch Perfect franchise (the third film in the series is set to open next December), co-starred in the Disney musical Into the Woods and been a featured fixture on the art house circuit. She was last seen on screen in the Ben Affleck-headlined vehicle The Accountant and last heard on screen in Fox’s animated hit Trolls. She also appeared in the recent comedies Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Get a Job and the Sundance tragicomedy The Hollars. She will next be seen in Fox Searchlight’s wedding-themed comedy Table 19.
