The John Wick universe is about to get a whole lot classier with the return of Anjelica Huston in the series’ spin-off film Ballerina. Huston is set to reprise her crime lord alter ego, the Director, which was briefly shown in John Wick 3: Parabellum, where she played the leader of the crime family Ruska Roma.
The Director’s scenes in Parabellum, which showcased her criminal enterprise facilitated via an underground ballerina school, inspired the new film. Producer Erica Lee has nothing but praise for Huston when describing how the idea for the new movie came from:
“The idea of Ballerina was formed around the scenes with Anjelica in John Wick 3. Anjelica Huston is an icon and is nothing less than Hollywood royalty. The world of Wick is always made richer by her commanding screen presence.”
Huston is considered by many to be Hollywood royalty. Huston’s grandfather, Walter Huston, won an Oscar, while her father, John Huston, directed The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and The Man Who Would Be King. In addition, her mother, Enrica Soma, was awarded the title of Prima Ballerina, which is awarded to only the best ballerinas.
Huston is known for her work in The Grifters, Prizzi’s Honor, and Enemies: A Love Story. She also received high praise for her performances in Woody Allen‘s films Manhattan Murder Mystery and Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Huston also appeared in the 1990s Addams Family franchise and many of Wes Anderson‘s ensemble members in his films.
Ballerina is set to star Ana Se Armas and Keanu Reeves alongside Huston and Ian McShane as series regular Winston. The film does not currently have a release date.
