Anime Fans, Try Not to Lose it Over the New ‘Boy and the Beast’ Trailer

If the teaser for Mamoru Hosoda’s animated flick, The Boy and the Beast, managed to whet your appetite last December, then get ready to salivate some more when you see the film’s first full length (and subtitled in English; don’t worry) trailer.

The trailer gives us a better look at our protagonist, Kyuta (the titular “boy”), and some of the fantastic inhabitants of the beast world he is sucked into: there’s his master, the red-furred, temperamental, wielding Kumatetsu (the titular “beast”); a chuckling monkey-man; a monk-like pig-man; a battling bull-man; a giant-freakin’-moth; and a cute little fuzzy thing (because it’s actually illegal to make Japanese animation without one of those). Another character worthy of note is a young man who looks like a more grown up version of Kyuta – perhaps indicating the film’s plot will span a good number of years.

The Boy and the Beast is set for a July 11th release in Japan, and if Hosoda’s last three features (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children) are anything to go by, it will probably find its way Stateside sometime after.
