Have you ever wanted to see what No Country for Old Men would be like if it took place in the Mad Max franchise’s post-apocalyptic Australia? If you have, you may well get your (frankly, odd) wish when A24 Films – who you may recall, scooped up a good handful of products at this year’s Sundance Film Festival – releases David Michod’s The Rover. And we’ve got the trailer to prove it.
Plot details are pretty sparse for now, but twitchfilm provides us with this little synopsis:
10 years following the collapse of society, a man will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him.
That jives with the reports we first heard when A24 first acquired the film last summer, as does the trailer:
The trailer isn’t exactly revealing, but if it is to be trusted, demonstrates The Rover will be just as somber, contemplative, and brutal as Michod’s most recent and most famous film, Animal Kingdom. Although Michod made several films before it, Animal Kingdom is what made him more of a recognizable name, garnering awards and praise – mostly for the performances of newcomer James Frecheville and veteran Jackie Weaver.
Guy Pearce – who also appeared in Animal Kingdom, albeit in a smaller role – and Robert Pattinson star in The Rover. It is set for a release sometime this summer.
