Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Will Tie the Knot in ‘By the Sea’

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will finally tie the knot on the big screen, in By the Sea. Universal recently acquired worldwide rights to the film, and has confirmed that Jolie is directing and writing a love story, which will star both her and Pitt. From the sound of it, By the Sea will showcase the actors together through a more intimate and less commercial perspective.

Although scant plot details have been revealed, we do know that it is an experimental, character-driven drama. As previously covered by mxdwn Movies, this is the first time the power couple will re-unite for a feature since Doug Liman’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005).

The pair are pooling their experiences from previous work both behind and in front of the camera. Pitt owns his own production company, Plan B Entertainment, which has produced several high-profile films, including World War Z, Eat Pray Love, and The Departed. Pitt’s involvement as a producer on last year’s 12 Years a Slave earned him a best picture Oscar. As for acting, Pitt has been praised for his performances in The Tree of Life (2011), Inglorious Basterds (2009), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), and Fight Club (1999). David Ayer’s soon to be released war drama, Fury, stars Pitt as an army sergeant named, “Wardaddy” who leads an outnumbered crew against Nazi Germany.

Fellow Oscar-winner Jolie is a talented actress in her own right, well-regarded for her roles in Maleficent (2014), Changeling (2008), A Mighty Heart (2007), and Girl, Interrupted (1999). She has also proven her ability to tell stories from behind the camera, through her work as a director on In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) and Unbroken (set for release on Christmas Day this year). Because of their collaboration on Unbroken, Jolie has a strong relationship with Universal.  Speaking about the actress turned multi-hyphenate, Universal chairwoman Donna Langley said, “Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on By The Sea.”

Shooting will start in Malta (a colorful European country, South of Sicily) next month. Malta’s prime minister, Joseph Muscat, is excited for the couple to film on the island of Gozo, explaining, “I’m sure that this film will help put our beautiful sister island of Gozo on the world map.”
