Director Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk has been given a November 11, 2016 release. The film, centered on a 19 year-old and his fellow soldiers as they embark on a promotional tour after a heroic stint in the Middle East, will fittingly hit screens on Veteran’s Day.
Billy Lynn, based on the acclaimed novel by Ben Fountain, centers on the experiences of Billy, played by newcomer Joe Alwyn, and his Bravo Company. The squad survives a harrowing battle in Iraq that happens to be caught on film, after which they are brought back to the U.S. to serve as the face of the war effort. They are sent on a promotional tour that culminates in a much-publicized appearance at halftime of a major Thanksgiving Day football game before they need to return to the battlefront.
Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), Steve Martin (It’s Complicated), Kristen Stewart (The Clouds of Sils Maria), Vin Diesel (Furious 7), and Chris Tucker round out the cast. Oscar-winner Lee directs from a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and first-time screenwriter Jean-Christophe Castelli.
