The legendary Daniel Day-Lewis has returned to acting in the first trailer for Anemone. The indie drama stars Day-Lewis and is directed and co-written by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis.

The film teases story between a middle-aged man, played by Sean Bean, as he leaves his suburban home on an excursion into the woods of Northern England, where he reconnects with his estranged brother, played by Day-Lewis. The film also stars Samantha Morton and Samuel Bottomley.

The Focus Features project is set to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, which runs from Sept.26 through Oct. 13, and will mark the return of the iconic actor after an eight-year retirement. The film will be the directorial debut for Ronan Day-Lewis and was co-written by the father-son duo.

The description for Anemone calls the film “an absorbing family drama … about lives undone by seemingly irreconcilable legacies of political and personal violence … bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship — one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier.” It continues with, “An emotional powerhouse, this directorial debut is assured in both small details and grand gestures as it charts the path toward familial redemption against all odds. In addition to its unflinching lead performances, Anemone features standout supporting work from Samantha Morton and Samuel Bottomley, and sensationally expressive widescreen cinematography by Ben Fordesman.”
