Andy Serkis Confirms ‘The Hunt For Gollum’ Is Delayed By A Year

The hunt for Gollum is soon to begin, but sadly not as soon as expected. The upcoming return to Middle Earth, aptly named The Hunt For Gollum,  has been delayed.

Serkis, who will be directing as well as reprising his role as Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, confirmed that the film will be facing a delay of a whole year.

The Direct reports that at Fan Expo Vancouver, Serkis said that the writing process is still in its infancy. He also made note of the schedule that they have before them, set to start filming next year after a few months of preparation.

The Hunt For Gollum will cover events alluded to in The Fellowship Of The Ring, in which Aragorn and Gandalf track down Gollum to get any information they can out of him regarding Sauron’s One Ring.

MovieWeb notes, however, that while Aragorn and Gandalf have that story in the books, it’s unclear if they will be depicted in the film. The only confirmed casting thus far is Serkis as Gollum, leaving the potential involvement of Aragorn or Gandalf to fan speculation.

The Hunt For Gollum will not be the first time Serkis has taken a seat in the directors chair. While known for many of his motion capture roles, such as Gollum and Caesar, Serkis’ most recent directorial credit was Venom: Let There Be Carnage, while also directing Mowgli: Legend Of The Jungle and Breathe.
