42.6 Years, a new romantic comedy starring Andy Samberg, has switched distributors from Amazon MGM to Focus Features. The film, which was originally announced back in 2023, originally had Jean Smart opposite Samberg, but now stars Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right). Additionally, the director has also changed, Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) was originally set to helm the film, but he has been replaced by Michael Schwartz (The Peanut Butter Falcon).
The film follows Ben, played by Samberg, who wakes up from a cryogenic coma after 42.6 years. He attempts to reunite with his ex-girlfriend Ruthie, played by Benning, who has lived half a lifetime in his absence. The film is written by Seth Reiss, based on a story by both Reiss and Samberg. The details of the swap from Amazon MGM to Focus Features were not disclosed, but Universal Pictures will be handling the international distribution. Ali Bell and Andy Samberg are both attached as producers.
There is currently no release date, but the script is completed.
