Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the movie theater comes An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, a real-life horror tale and second chapter to the Oscar-winning 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Former Vice President Al Gore continues his post-political career in educating, informing and advocating for efforts in defeating climate change and readied a rare doc sequel. Paramount Pictures has just released the trailer for the doc, set to open in theaters this summer.
While tense and uneasy the first go around – a neat feat considering the first feature consisted mostly of Gore presenting PowerPoint slides – An Inconvenient Sequel arrives at a particularly precarious moment politically. Of which, the trailer doesn’t hesitate to hold back as it opens with invective of then candidate (now President) Donald Trump.
Further more, in the decade that followed An Inconvenient Truth bringing about the realities of climate change into the heart of popular culture comes this timely and topical follow-up that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution. Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk direct the film, which made its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
In hopes the film does more than merely speak to the converted, it’s worth noting that An Inconvenient Truth was a blockbuster by documentary standards, earning nearly $50 million worldwide along with its two Academy Awards.
An Inconvenient Sequel hits theaters on July 28th.
