‘An American Werewolf in London’ Remake in the Works

According to Deadline, An American Werewolf in London is getting a remake. The original movie was made 35 years ago in 1981. John Landis wrote and directed the film, and it starred David Naughton, who was known for his Dr. Pepper commercials. Jenny Agutter and Griffin Dunne were also in the flick. It followed two children who were attacked by a werewolf while on vacation in England. Dunne’s character gets killed early on and Naughton’s character becomes the Werewolf in London. The film took home an Oscar for Best Makeup, done by Rick Baker.

The remake will have The Walking Dead‘s David Alpert and Robert Kirkman producing through Skybound Entertainment under Universal Pictures. In addition, Max Landis (You Me Her), John Landis’ son, will direct. Max Landis has written and produced Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which aired on BBC America. He is most known as screenwriter for Chronicle, American Ultra, and Victor Frankenstein. He also wrote a screenplay titled Bright, which is being directed by David Ayer.

An American Werewolf in London, though not a huge box office hit, turned out to be a cult classic for some film lovers. It’s a common misconception that the 1978 song, “Werewolves of London” was used in the film, but actually Landis used Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising.” The latter song was used as Naughton first transformed into a werewolf.
