Deadline.com is reporting that Amy Schumer, the comedian, and actress behind movies like Trainwreck, Snatched, and her new film I Feel Pretty may land an interesting new role. She is in talks to be a part of the dramatic boxing biopic Christy Martin, which will allow her to explore her range. The film is a true story of inspirational boxer Christy Martin and her life. Christy Martin is being produced by Voltage Pictures, the company behind I Feel Pretty, which is set to hit theaters starting this weekend.
Katherine Fugate will helm the upcoming biopic. The film will follow the titular (and real-life) figure Christy Martin, a talented female boxer who went from poverty to immense acclaim and accomplishments, becoming one of the iconic leading figures in her field. However, her supposed fairytale was soon stalled in its tracks thanks to the cruelty of her then-husband and trainer, Jim Martin, who attempted to kill her. Spurred by Christy’s romance with another female, Jim horrifically attacked his wife upon hearing the news that she planned to end their marriage. Thankfully though her severe injuries needed lots of medical care, she healed. Her husband, on the other hand, was convicted and rightfully sent to jail.
As of now, the full casting list for the film is still in progress.
