It was reported on Saturday that Amy Poehler’s production company Paper Kite has acquired the film rights for the upcoming young adult feminist novel Moxie, written by Jennifer Mathieu.
The story of Moxie follows a 16-year-old girl from a small Texas town who, inspired by her mother’s feminist past, starts a feminist revolution at her high school.
Mathieu has previously published YA novels The Truth About Alice, Devoted, and Afterward (the first of which she received the Teen Choice Debut Author Award at the Children’s Choice Book Awards). Moxie will be published by Roaring Brook Press, of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, on Sept. 19, 2017. Mathieu teaches high school English classes in Texas.
Roaring Brook Senior Editor Katherine Jacobs, had this to say of author Jennifer Mathieu:
Jennifer writes with a voice so authentic to the teenage experience that it feels like her characters walked straight out of a high school classroom and into the pages of her books. She is poised to become one of the most important writers for young adults working today.
Paper Kite is currently the production company behind Comedy Central’s Broad City and Hulu’s Difficult People. They are currently also developing feature films Balls and Schooled, as well as television movies The Baby for NBC and Family Style.
