The reimagining of American Psycho is gradually picking up more steam as production continues further. As the film draws closer, those who worked on the original film are sharing their own thoughts on the subject.

Directed and adapted by Mary Harron, 2000’s American Psycho follows Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman, as he battles the day-to-day monotony of his office job with unimaginable crimes as he tries to grapple with the weight of what he’s done.

Within the supporting cast of the film, Matt Ross stated his own displeasure over remakes, stating he’s been offered them before as a director but has turned them down. But as Hollywood Reporter noted, who initially gathered the thoughts from the cast and crew, the new take from director Luca Guadagnino is meant to be a new adaptation directly based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel, rather than a full-fledged remake.

After complementing the style and skill of the Challengers director, Ross stated that there’s ample room for another interpretation of the book to exist alongside Harron’s film.

As Hollywood Reporter also noted in their original reporting, co-producer of American Psycho, Alessandro Camon, had a similar apprehension about the daunting prospect of remaking a movie as iconic as American Psycho. However, he did say it’s also a prospect that would get any actor excited.

“Of course, Laurence Olivier is the Hamlet, but it’s not about, ‘How do I better Lawrence Olivier?’ It’s about, ‘How do I find my own Hamlet?’” he said. As far as the talent goes in front of the camera, however, there have been no concrete casting choices as of yet.
