American Film Institutes Selects 10 Best Films of 2015

The American Film Institute (AFI) published their list of the best films of 2015. The list includes many of the years’ most critically admired films and great many that are without question a part of the Oscar conservation. They include SpotlightCarol and Mad Max: Fury Road. Most notably, however, may the inclusion of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The AFI list was comprised of a jury consisting of industry professionals, film critics and historians.  The list was actually postponed in part so that members of the jury had a chance to see J.J. Abrams’ much anticipated reboot of the beloved space saga.

The full list of the AFI’s top ten of 2015 below:

  • Bridges of Spies – directed by Steven Spielberg
  • Carol – directed by Todd Haynes
  • Inside Out – directed by Pete Docter, Ronnie Del Carmen
  • Mad Max: Fury Road – directed by George Miller
  • The Martian – directed by Ridley Scott
  • Room – directed by Lenny Abrahamson
  • Spotlight – directed by Tom McCarthy
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens – directed by J.J. Abrams
  • Straight Outta Compton – directed by F. Gary Gray
