Walton Goggins and Amber Midthunder are set to star in an action movie titled Painter, which was recently picked up by 20th Century Studios. The film will follow a young woman, trained to fight since childhood and played by Midthunder, who must then use her skills to save her kidnapped father, played by Goggins. Goggins’ role was initially set to be played by Alan Ritchson, but he had to step away from the project due to scheduling conflicts.
The film is written by Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick movie franchise and writer/co-writer of the first three movies in the franchise. Kolstad also previously wrote the Nobody movies, which starred Bob Odenkirk. Painter is set to be the directorial debut of Garrett Warren, a stunt coordinator who has worked on films like Logan, the 2024 remake of Road House, and the first two Avatar movies.
James Cameron will once again work with 20th Century Studios, the studio distributing the Avatar franchise, as he will executive produce Painter. Production is set to be handled by FilmNation through the production banner Infrared Pictures. Producers on the film include Drew Simon and Sam Speiser through Infrared Pictures, Kolstad, and Josh Adler.
No other details about the film, such as when production will begin, are currently known.
