This week’s Tribeca Film Festival will see the premiere of the father-daughter musical drama When I Live My Life Over Again, which will feature original songs performed by the film’s stars Amber Heard (Paranoia) and Christopher Walken (Catch Me if You Can).
The story follows Walken as Paul, a New York City crooner attempting to make a comeback when his daughter Jude (Heard) comes knocking on his door needing money and a place to stay, creating challenges for both parties in the days to come. This will be Heard’s first experience singing for a film, a quality which reveals itself in her raw and emotional vocals below. Walken, however, is much more seasoned in musical theater which falls directly in line with his experienced character.
The indie was written and directed by Robert Edwards in his second feature film after 2006’s dramatic thriller Land of the Blind, which starred Ralph Fiennes and Donald Sutherland. Edwards also wrote the lyrics for the film’s songs, which were composed by Tom McGinty (keyboardist for The Psychedelic Furs).
Edwards’ songs – released by Indiewire – reflect the different musical eras and concerns affecting Heard and Walken’s characters. In the first song, titled ‘Montreal’ and performed by Heard, Edwards wanted to reveal the character’s emotional background through the feeling of the music and lyrics. The second, titled ‘When I Live My Life’ and performed by Walken, harkens back to the Big Band jazz styles of Frank Sinatra and the like.
