Amazon/MGM Studios, having acquired the rights to making the next “James Bond” film from longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, now face the question: who will be the next Agent 007? Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has taken the casting choice to his Instagram, captioning an image that detailed the shift in rights: “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?”
Fans have quickly jumped at the opportunity to weigh in, with a large number of picks selecting Henry Cavill. Cavill, who is most known for his portrayal of Superman in Warner Bros.’ decade spanning DC Extended Universe, addressed the opportunity at a premiere for his film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, to which he responded: “Let’s see. I think it’s wonderful that people say that. I don’t know if it’s necessarily up to me.”
Cavill has previously been up for the role, auditioning for 2006’s Casino Royale. The part famously had gone to Daniel Craig instead, as producers Wilson and Broccoli had felt a then 22-year-old Cavill was “too young” for the role.
Other suggested casting choices include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Golding, and Idris Elba. With no definite plans yet for the upcoming 26th Bond film’s production, it is still too early too say what might happen. “It takes a huge commitment,” Michael G. Wilson had previously stated regarding the role. “Not all actors are really willing to do it.”
