Amazon Studios is branching out internationally with an original Italian comedy entitled Anni da cane (Dog Years). The platform will exclusively stream the title this fall in 240 countries and territories. Fabio Mollo (South is Nothing (2013), Giganti (2007)) is directing the feature written by Mary Stella Brugiati and Alessandro Bosi. The Italian distribution company Notorious Pictures is named as producer on Dog Years. Production is said to have begun with an undisclosed cast.
Dog Years tells the story of a teenage girl named Stella and her darkly comedic theory that she is going to die soon. After a serious car-accident that involved a dog, Stella convinces herself that she is aging in dog years (so one year counts as seven). Upon turning sixteen, she creates a bucket list of all the things she wants to experience before her decidedly near demise.
The head of European Originals at Amazon, Georgia Brown, shares her opinion on the addition of Dog Years to the super-giant’s growing media content, she says, “We are excited to bolster the thriving Amazon Scripted Originals slate in Europe with this unique Italian story.” Nicole Morganti, who heads the Italian Originals department shares Brown’s enthusiasm to begin “…our movie production with a prestigious partner such as Notorious Pictures.”
Dog Years is the newest announcement from Amazon concerning their projects located in Italy. Original series such as Andrea di Stefano’s Bang Bang Baby and the Carlo Verdone-directed Vita da Carlo are also in the works for the studio.
