Although the competition was steep, Amazon Studios won the auction for the unpublished short story The Dwelling by Aaron Jayh. According to Deadline, the bidding came down to Netflix and Amazon Studios, with the latter winning, and the tale reportedly sold for a “high-six figure.”
The producers are said to be Liz Raposo’s Outlier Society and Michael B. Jordan, sparking a conversation that the latter may be potentially starring in the film. Scott Glassgold will also join Raposo and Jordan. For creating the script, Aaron Guzikowski is set to come on board. He is best known for writing and producing the hit television show Raised by Wolves on HBOMax.
The unpublished short story reportedly has a solid male lead described as a “newly divorced father.” The man ends up discovering a house buried in his backyard. Despite being retired from playing professional football, his injuries have not left him, as he begins to question what is real and what is not.
There may be an increase in short story adaptations since “Short stories, particularly in the genre, are becoming a very viable way to broker deals and draw talent” (Deadline).
