Fresh off the success of her latest romantic comedy, Marry Me, Jennifer Lopez is set to star alongside Josh Duhamel in their new film Shotgun Wedding. Previously a Lionsgate film, the rights to Shotgun Wedding now belong to Amazon Prime Video.
The film was set to release in theaters on July 1, but Amazon Prime Video is expected to change this to a limited theatrical release with no updates on streaming dates. This move comes as no surprise from Lionsgate due to its success in selling other films to various streaming platforms.
Lopez’s Marry Me was the most-watched movie on Peacock when released, with over six million accounts streaming the film. Amazon likely expects a similar level of success with her new romantic comedy.
“Packed with action, comedy, and a dash of romance, Shotgun Wedding is one of those rare films with something for everyone,” notes Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “With a cast led by Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel, the film is bursting with star power and fantastic performances. We are thrilled to work with the entire filmmaking team to bring this hilarious, multifaceted film to Prime Video audiences around the world.”
Shotgun Wedding tells the story of an apprehensive couple preparing for their destination wedding among their difficult families and an unforeseen hostage takeover. This Jason Moore-directed film will be released on June 29, with updates from Amazon regarding streaming availability to come soon.
