Amazon and Roadside Attractions Team to Release ‘The Only Living Boy in New York’

Announced on Friday, Amazon and Roadside Attractions will be co-distributing the coming-of-age drama The Only Living Boy in New York. The two companies have already collaborated on period drama Love & Friendship and the Oscar-winning Manchester by the Sea, and are set to release the Iraqi war drama The Wall later this year.

The film’s title was taken from the Simon & Garfunkel song, and will be set in New York City, where a recent college grad (Callum Turner) finds himself in the middle of the relationship between his father (Pierce Brosnan) and his father’s mistress (Kate Beckinsale). As he too begins to have twisted affair with his father’s mistress, he receives life advice from a quirky old neighbor (Jeff Bridges).

Given the film took a few years to get off the ground, Olivia Wilde and Rosamund Pike were originally cast in the lead role before Kate Beckinsale stepped in for the role of mistress ‘Johanna’. Logan Lerman and Miles Teller were both considered to play the lead role of ‘Thomas’ before Callum Turner was cast.

Although a relative newcomer, Turner previously had supporting roles on films such as Victor Frankenstein with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe and Assassin’s Creed with Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons. He also starred alongside Patrick Stewart and the late Anton Yelchin in the indie thriller Green Room, as well as had a part in the BBC miniseries War and Peace.

The project seems to be in good hands with director Marc Webb, who has previously directed the Amazing Spiderman series with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as well as (500) Days of Summer with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.

Look for The Only Living Boy in New York to hit US theaters on Aug 11, 2017.
