Amanda Seyfried Speaks On The Viral ‘Wicked’ Video

The iconic actress Amanda Seyfried is trending on social media after a viral video of her singing “Popular” from the musical Wicked resurfaced. Since the film’s release, many fans have speculated that this clip was her audition for the dazzling role of Glinda. However, Seyfried recently cleared this up in an interview with People magazine.

Seyfried explained, “I think it was during COVID. I was doing a Lancôme shoot in Long Island City, and Elizabeth Stewart was my stylist… I was not auditioning for Wicked yet, but I knew it was coming up. So, I was f****** around, and I was like, ‘This dress is so Glinda,’ and Elizabeth was like, ‘Do it.’ Then she posted it at some point,”

Seyfried admitted that perhaps it may have been better if this video had never been posted, but she emphasized that it was just a fun, behind-the-scenes moment from her shoot.

Known for her vocals from her roles in Mamma Mia! (2008 and 2018) and Les Misérables (2012), Seyfried is no stranger to musicals. Seyfried has shared in the past that she went through extensive vocal training for her roles in both of these musicals. She certainly has proved her dedication to this craft.

Although this viral video wasn’t her audition, Seyfried did pursue the role of Glinda. Seyfried shared that it was a very lengthy process and that she had worked very hard to obtain the role. All in all, the role of Glinda was given to Arianna Grande. Seyfried, since then, has praised the Wicked movie and noted that Grande did an excellent job.

Wicked continues to play in theaters nationwide. Seyfried’s journey and Grande’s portrayal of Glinda have certainly kept fans discussing this beloved musical.
