As a seven-time Emmy winner and recent Academy Award winner for last year’s I Tonya, Allison Janney is having stellar career. Now, the former West Wing and current Mom actress is in talks for another movie role, alongside Hugh Jackman, in the upcoming independent film Bad Education. The film, which will be produced by Automatik, is inspired by screenwriter Mike Makowsky’s (I Think We’re Not Alone) real-life high school experience. The film stars Jackman as a district superintendent who lives a dual life, working to educate his students while also embezzling public funds to enjoy a life of luxury.
According to Deadline, Janney will play a business manager who is aware of Jackman’s scheme and has cut herself in on the deal. Like him, she enjoys the lavish lifestyle that results from embezzling funds, and she will assist him in covering their tracks from local authorities. The film is currently in pre-production, so no details regarding a release date have been announced yet.
Bad Education will be directed by Cory Finley, who made his directorial debut with 2017’s Thoroughbreds, which starred Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy and the late Anton Yelchin. The film’s producers include Automatik’s Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, as well as Sight Unseen’s Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, and Oren Moverman.
