The new film All of Us Strangers from director Andrew Haigh, starring Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, swept the 2023 British Independent Film Awards. The film earned numerous awards, including Best British Independent Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Paul Mescal also won for Best Supporting Performance. All of Us Strangers also won awards for best cinematography, editing, and music supervision.
The film follows Adam (Andrew Scott) as he develops a relationship after a chance encounter with Harry (Paul Mescal) while dealing with memories and visions from his past life. Adam returns to his childhood home and grapples with the death of his parents.
The Best Lead Performance award went to Mia McKenna-Bruce for her role as Molly Manning Walker in the debut feature How to Have Sex, and McKenna-Bruce’s costar, Shaun Thomas, won Best Supporting Performance for his role.
The Best Debut Director award was given to Savanah Leaf for Earth Mama, and Breakthrough Producer went to Theo Barrowclough for the movie Scrapper. Nida Manzoor won best debut screenwriter for Polite Society.
Chloe Abrahams won best debut director of documentary for her film The Taste of Mango. Best British Short Film went to the Festival of Slaps by Adbou Cisse, and Anatomy of a Fall was named Best International Independent Film.
