All Cheerleaders Die, the horror-comedy that opened the Midnight Madness segment of this years Toronto Film Festival, has found a distributor in Image Entertainment. All Cheerleaders Die comes from co-writers and directors Lucky McKee (May, The Woman) and Chris Sivertson (The Lost, I Know Who Killed Me). Neither of the two has found much mainstream success despite each writing and directing several horror and thriller movies over the past decade. All Cheerleaders Die adapts McKee and Sivertson’s short-film debut of the same title from 2001 into a feature length release. The original short pitted a team of high school cheerleaders against their zombified, football-playing boyfriends. All Cheerleaders Die (2013) will follow the cheerleading squad’s newest recruit, who joins despite the wishes of her lesbian ex-girlfriend. Said ex just so happens to practice witchcraft and swears revenge both the cheerleaders and the football team.
All Cheerleaders Die (2013) received mixed reviews at Toronto. Critics found the film’s outlandish style as both its greatest strength and weakness. Despite the lukewarm reception, Image seems to believe that the All Cheerleaders Die will find an audience. Mainstream audiences will have the chance to judge for themselves when All Cheerleaders Die releases in spring 2014.
