Alison Brie is already stirring up anticipation for her next project. With her newest film, Together, now playing in theaters, Brie shared some details about one of her upcoming roles in Masters Of The Universe.
As the title implies, the film is based off of the toyline of the 1980’s. In the same vein as Transformers and G.I. Joe, Masters Of The Universe was a staple of pop culture in the 80’s, complete with a toyline, comic series, and cartoon.
Director Travis Knight had experience with another franchise of the 80’s before he tackled Masters. In 2018, Knight directed Bumblebee, a new film from Transformers focusing specifically on Bumblebee, who finds himself befriending a teenage girl on earth after he has to flee his war-torn home.
Deadline reports that Brie is playing opposite Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man as Evil-Lyn. As the second in command to Jared Leto’s Skeletor, Evil-Lyn uses magic to try and thwart He-Man’s efforts to bring down Skeletor and his tyranny.
Much like the other toy-based franchises of the time, Masters kept the tone very light and fun. However, in the lead up to the latest live-action take on the series, many started to theorize that it would aim for a more serious approach. Brie herself disputed these rumors in a Collider interview, saying, “I don’t think they know as much as they think they know. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
