Disney is continuing its streak of producing some of 2019’s most financially successful movies. The remake of their animated classic Aladdin has officially made a billion dollars worldwide at box office. As of now, the only other movies more financially successful in 2019 include Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, all of which are owned by The Walt Disney Company.
2019’s Aladdin made an impressive $91 million dollar opening weekend at the domestic box office ($116 million if you account the film opened on Memorial Day weekend) and since then earned $345 million as well as $663 million in the foreign market. This amounts to an impressive $1,009,728,586 million worldwide, making Aladdin one of the most successful films in the Disney live-action line up.
Despite the films’ mixed critical reviews, as well as fans still critical of the Disney live-action trend continuing, audiences have made Aladdin (2019) one of the biggest hits of the entire year. Not only that, but the film has become the most successful movie of Will Smith’s career in recent memory, as he thanked fans in his Instagram account for helping to make Aladdin incredibly successful. Smith isn’t the only one satisfied with the film’s success, as lead actor Mena Massoud also posted a thank you message to fans on Twitter. Massoud mentioned he is very ecstatic that a film filled with such a diverse cast received so much success this year. Between this and The Lion King remake already shattering records within two weeks of its premiere, the live-action Disney remake train won’t be stopping anytime soon.
