Academy Award winning actor Al Pacino is a triple threat. Maybe not in the classic “sing, dance, act” way, but when you just consider his acting history, he’s certainly been around the block. He has acted live on Broadway (Merchant of Venice, King Lear), has several TV specials to his credit (You Don’t Know Jack, Phil Spector), and many unforgettable big screen performances (The Godfather, Scarface, Scent Of A Woman). Next week he’ll keep adding to that list when he starts filming his next project, the true story Imagine, in LA.
Screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Tangled, Las Vegas, Crazy, Stupid, Love), is adding director to his resume with Imagine, in addition to writing this script.
Imagine is the true story of aging rock musician Danny Collins (Al Pacino). Danny finds an unopened letter sent to him years before by his friend John Lennon. The letter urges him to leave his rock star lifestyle and go find the son he has never met. The plot unfolds as Danny locates his son and begins to bond with him and his family.
Bobby Cannavale (Parker, Win Win), has been cast as Collins’s son, and Jennifer Garner (Catch Me If You Can, Juno), is his daughter-in-law. Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are Alright), adds a spark as Danny’s love interest, and Michael Caine (Alfie, The Dark Knight), plays his longtime manager and confident.
The Wrap is reporting that Josh Peck (Nickelodean’s Drake & Josh, and the recent reboot of Red Dawn with Chris Hemsworth), is in talks for a small supporting role playing a hotel valet that Al prompts to pursue the girl of his dreams.
Denise Di Novi, who produced Fogleman’s Crazy, Stupid, Love, is producing with Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam). Intimitable Pictures is independently financing the film. Shivani Rawat and Nimitt Mankad are executive producing.
Imagine is expected to be released in 2014.
